Issues of uniting and enhancing the role of women in peacebuilding were considered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 December 2021, an OSCE network platform for women leaders involved in peacebuilding and negotiation processes was held in the format of video conference.
It was attended by OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, Senior Mediation Advisor to the European External Action Service (EEAS) Antje Herrberg, representatives of foreign parliaments, universities, organizations, lawyers and researchers.
The platform was also addressed by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
It was noted that large-scale work is being carried out in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality, including the improvement of national legislation to protect the interests of women. The Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality until 2030 was approved. With the support of the UN, the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries was created in the region, aimed at enhancing the role of women and promoting the implementation of decisions of the leaderships of the Central Asian states in the areas of socio-economic development and strengthening peace and stability.
It was especially noted that Uzbekistan is open to cooperation within the framework of the Dialogue with similar associations of the OSCE participating States.
It was emphasized that great attention is paid to strengthening partnerships on women’s issues at the regional and international levels.
“Our country reaffirms its commitment to the Global Agenda for Women, Peace and Security, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Decade of Action to Achieve Global Goals and other regulatory frameworks developed under the auspices of the UN,” said the head of the Upper House Parliament of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
During the breakout sessions, the event participants also considered issues of uniting and enhancing the role of women in peacebuilding, the development of an inclusive mediation process, the provision of effective and advisory programs in this area, and others.
