Germany make decision on a new chancellor
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Coalition negotiations after the parliamentary elections in Germany lasted 2 months. In the coalition agreement, it was agreed that the government of the country will be headed by the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Olaf Scholz.
The new coalition partners were at odds on financial and climate policy and the division of ministerial posts. The Greens informally report that they convinced the SPD and FDP to ditch coal as an energy source by 2030, eight years earlier than planned by the current government.
Olaf Scholz has been Federal Minister of Finance since 2018. Prior to that, from 2007 to 2009, he headed the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, served as mayor of Hamburg. He was born in Osnabrück in Lower Saxony on June 14, 1958. Since 1975 - Member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
Scholz takes a tough stance towards the Belarusian authorities. In particular, he advocates new sanctions against Belarus.
The new German government will begin work in the second week of December.
