Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CEIR) presents the results of the development of Jizzakh region over the past five years.
The experts presented the main changes in the socio-economic development of the region that have occurred during the last years of active reforms.
Transport corridors between the countries of Asia and Europe run through Jizzakh region. It borders on two countries at once - Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. In addition, Jizzakh lies on the way from the capital to Samarkand, Bukhara and the Ferghana Valley. Geographical location is one of the most important factors in the development of the region's economy and the road infrastructure of the entire country.
The region has 17 deposits of minerals, a significant amount of reserves of mineral resources. Most of them are used for the production of building materials.
The leading sectors of the economy in the region's GRP are agriculture, forestry and fisheries, industry, construction, trade and services.
Gross domestic product of the region (GRP) for 2017-2020 increased by 19% and amounted to 18.1 trillion soums.
Industrial production grew from 2 trillion soums to 5.8 trillion soums (growth 48%).
The number of operating enterprises in the region increased by 41% from 18.8 thousand in 2016 to 26.4 thousand in 2020.
In the field of infrastructure development in Jizzakh region for 2016-2020, 38 km of highways, 250 km of gas pipelines and 1,785 km of water supply networks have been laid.
For five years, about 106 thousand jobs have been created in the region.
Over the past five years, 2,994 thousand square meters of housing, 8.3 thousand places in preschool institutions, 20.6 thousand places in schools and 921 thousand places in hospitals have been created in the region.
