Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) won a tender for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm on the principles of public-private partnership (PPP).
On 16 September 2021, in Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a ceremony was held to open financial proposals for a project for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm on the principles of public-private partnership (PPP). During the ceremony, the results of the financial proposals (tariffs) were announced.
A new wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 100 MW, based on renewable energy sources, will be put into operation in Uzbekistan within 2 years from the date of signing the project agreements.
ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia), Masdar (United Arab Emirates) and Voltalia (France) presented their technical, commercial and financial proposals for the wind farm construction.

The reserve winner is Masdar with a bid of 2.6550 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity, while Voltalia has offered 3.2790 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity.
Sherzod Khodjaev, Deputy Minister of Energy:
“Uzbekistan has made great strides in producing green energy and providing consumers with electricity that reduces the country’s dependence on fossil fuels and reduces CO2 emissions. This project is part of our strategy to generate electricity from clean, renewable energy sources to meet the growing demand for electricity.
We are delighted to be working with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other international financial institutions to join the international wind energy community as a result of this project.”
Uzbekistan is closely cooperating with the EBRD in the development of the country’s energy sector for private investment, efficient and transparent attraction of foreign capital, as well as in the development of a joint program to reduce harmful emissions and decarbonization.
This project is one of the important components of the strategy to achieve the production of 3 GW of wind power in Uzbekistan by 2030. Once completed and commissioned, the project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 160,000 tonnes per year and generate additional 350 million kWh of electricity.
