Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the sidelines of the International Industrial Exhibition “Innoprom. Big Industrial Week in Uzbekistan” in Tashkent, the 3rd meeting of the Council for Industrial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was held.
The event was attended by Member of the Board (Minister) for Industry and Agroindustrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) A. Kamalyan, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation D. Manturov, Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus P. Parkhomchik, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia V. Kerobyan, Minister of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic K. Turdubaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank N. Podguzov, as well as heads of large investment and industrial companies and associations. Uzbekistan as an observer state to the EAEU was represented by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov.
During the meeting, the main directions of industrial cooperation within the EAEU for the short and medium term and the existing opportunities for the development of industrial cooperation in the Union countries and the implementation of joint investment projects in certain industries were revealed. Also in this context, effective mechanisms for supporting and financing industrial cooperation projects with the participation of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) were discussed.
Special attention was paid to the development of industrial cooperation in the field of aircraft construction. “The potential of the enterprises of our countries in this area is very large, and it must be fully realized. The Russian side put forward an initiative to establish, within the framework of the organization, a joint commission on import substitution of foreign and high-tech products. This is necessary so that our countries can develop both the production sphere and the sphere of air transportation,” said A. Kamalyan, member of the Board (Minister) for Industry and Agroindustrial Complex.
The meeting participants also agreed to develop a medium-term program document to increase the level of provision of the EAEU countries with strategically important medicines and instructed the Commission to ensure that this issue is considered at the level of the heads of the Union member states. The parties agreed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fulfillment of the task is of particular importance.
The meeting also approved a draft of a new strategic document - "Main directions of industrial cooperation until 2025", which will allow the member states of the Union to overcome serious pressing challenges, such as increased competition and technological lag.
During his welcoming speech, the head of the Uzbek delegation emphasized the priority of deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EAEU in order to search for additional opportunities to expand partnership in the trade, economic, investment and transport spheres, as well as the importance of the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation, equality and consideration of the national interests of the countries laid down in the EAEU concept. -participants.
They also outlined a vision of key prospects for interaction with the EAEU in the status of an observer country - the development of cooperation ties with the creation of production value chains, joint promotion of products to promising markets, the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at increasing the volume of mutual trade and improving the efficiency of existing ones and the formation of new ones. transport corridors, as well as deepening multilateral ties in the development and promotion of innovations.
During the meeting with the participation of the heads of delegations of the EAEU member states, an exchange of views took place on key agenda items and a number of constructive proposals were voiced. Summing up, A. Kamalyan stressed: “I am convinced that today’s meeting, as well as our subsequent joint work in this format, will serve the accelerated development of integration and the achievement of practical results of sustainable development of the real sector of the economy. The next meeting of the EAEU Industrial Policy Council will be held in the fall of 2021 in Kazakhstan, within the framework of the forum of machine builders. And we hope that our agenda will be devoted, first of all, to the issues of sectoral cooperation”.
