Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- By 2021, 2,100 enterprises with Russian capital are operating in Uzbekistan, which is more than 2 times higher than the level of 2018 (900). Aziz Voitov, First Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, said this on 5 April 2021 during the INNOPROM exhibition in Tashkent.
“Since the first forum of interregional cooperation Uzbekistan-Russia in 2018, bilateral economic relations have been developing more and more intensively. To date, over 100 mutual visits of the regional leaders have taken place. The results of this interaction are reflected in the growth of enterprises with the participation of the Russian side,” A. Voitov said.
His speech was delivered during the Main Plenary Session of the Interregional Forum within the framework of the first International Industrial Exhibition "INNOPROM" in Tashkent.
“Uzbekistan is not only a comfortable environment for doing business, an environment and constant support from the government, but also a favorable geographic location, rich mineral reserves, qualified human resources and low production costs, a market that combines free trade regimes of more than 300 million. consumers. Today we have a solid package of large investment projects with Russia totaling more than US$16 billion in the fields of petrochemistry, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, production of building materials, textile products, processing of fruits and vegetables," said the First Deputy Minister of Investments and foreign trade of Uzbekistan.
He stressed that there are 22 free economic zones and 132 industrial zones in the country, in which a favorable business environment, a wide system of legal guarantees and the necessary structure have been created.
Bukhara, Samarkand, Navoi and Tashkent regions are named among the leading in the direction of interregional cooperation with Russia.
“I hope that INNOPROM will serve as an excellent platform for creating new points of growth for the development of cooperation between regions and will use all possible strengths of the Uzbek-Russian partnership. As a result of this event, we expect the signing of a number of effective agreements on the implementation of projects in the fields of metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, as well as the achievement of agreements on new 50 projects worth more than $ 500 million prepared for our Russian partners,” Aziz Voitov said in conclusion.
The fact that regional ties between Russia and Uzbekistan continued to develop even during the difficult period of the pandemic was also noted at this session by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexey Gruzdev.
“In 2020, the regions conducted more than 20 online business missions, switching to such a hybrid format due to the closure of borders,” A. Gruzdev said.
He stressed that the experience of overcoming the pandemic showed the need to strengthen cooperation ties.
“As our experience has shown in 2020, when a lot of contracts began to collapse, production chains began to break, we all need to fully try to develop cooperation ties in, as they say, the post-Soviet space. There are many benefits here. In addition to the fact that there are cultural ties, this is a common linguistic space, understandable standards and geographic proximity. All this is the potential that needs to be developed, forming a new basis for industrial cooperation,” A. Gruzdev said.
He emphasized the importance of the personnel direction, noting that personnel training is a very important condition for industrial cooperation.
“It is gratifying that branches of 12 leading Russian educational institutions operate in Uzbekistan, I am convinced that their number will multiply,” A. Gruzdev said.
During the Main plenary session of the INNOPROM interregional dialogue, the heads of the regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, regional chambers of commerce and industry and companies discussed topical issues of interregional cooperation, presented investment projects in their regions, and shared their experience in working with international investors. In particular, the khokims of the Bukhara and Navoi regions of Uzbekistan, the governors of the Sverdlovsk, Ulyanovsk, Kostroma, Nizhny Novgorod regions of Russia presented their vision of the further development of interregional cooperation.
