Subregional consultations within the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 23 February 2021, subregional consultations were held within the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries in the format of videoconference.
At the opening of the consultations, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Deputy Executive Director of UN-Women A. Regner, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, UN Development Program M. S. Egger and Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Head of UNRCCA N. Herman delivered a video message.
The meeting, chaired by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis T. Narbaeva, was attended by Deputy Chairperson of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Kesebaeva, Deputy Torag of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Kasymalieva, Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan H. Kurbonzoda, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of the Mejlisi of Turkmenistan on Social Policy G. Berkelieva, Regional Director of the UN-Women for Europe and Central Asia A. El-Yasir, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Uzbekistan H. Fraser and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic Uzbekistan M. Dimovsk and representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations, as well as experts on gender issues.
During the consultations, the participants exchanged views on the organizational and substantive aspects of preparations for the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The event also discussed issues of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women, encouraging their activity in public life and public administration, and empowering women.
In turn, the members of the Dialogue congratulated Uzbekistan on its successful participation in the 46th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council.
In this context, the efforts of Uzbekistan at the national and regional levels to ensure human rights and freedoms, including the protection of the rights, freedoms and interests of women and girls, were highly assessed.
At the suggestion of A. El-Yasir, an exchange of views took place on the participation of the Central Asian countries in the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in one group.
Also at the meeting, the participants discussed issues of agreeing on the Concept and Action Plan of the Dialogue for 2021.
Following the consultations, the members of the Dialogue agreed to closely cooperate in the implementation of the activities provided for in the Action Plan for 2021.
