Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Riga, Kadambay Sultanov, who is in Uzbekistan, held an online meeting with Vice President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala.
The MEP from Finland was informed about the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, measures to improve the judicial and legal system, ensure the protection of human rights and freedoms, focusing on the achievements in the elimination of forced and child labor and the final exclusion of Uzbekistan from the “List countries of particular concern” in the area of religious freedom.
Separately, the key provisions of the Address of the head of our state to the Oliy Majlis, in which the priority of close cooperation with the European Union and Uzbekistan’s obtaining the status of a “GSP +” beneficiary, is emphasized are highlighted. In this context, the importance of supporting the efforts of Uzbekistan was noted.
Heidi Hautala, in turn, said that Helsinki and Brussels are watching with great interest the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and progress in ensuring the observance of the rights and freedoms of citizens and welcomed Tashkent’s desire to intensify all-round cooperation with the EU by obtaining status "GSP +".
