Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, the khokim of the city of Tashkent, Jahongir Artikkhodjaev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to our country, Gunther Overfeld.
Jakhongir Artikkhodjaev expressed gratitude to Gunther Overfeld for the practical assistance provided during the COVID-19 trials. He noted that all countries and cities are adapting to life and work in the conditions of COVID-19, and the necessary measures are also being taken in the city of Tashkent and conditions are being created for the resumption of activities in various areas and the achievement of their stable work.
The German Ambassador emphasized that he appreciates cooperation with Uzbekistan and Tashkent, and that if until 2020 no more than 7 million euros of investments were made to projects with the states of Central Asia, then from 2021 Germany is ready to invest 120 million euros in Uzbekistan alone.
In general, during the dialogue, issues of expanding and developing bilateral, mutually beneficial relations were discussed. Ambassador Gunther Overfeld said that Uzbekistan is of great interest to many German firms and companies, that next year a large German delegation is expected to visit our country for cooperation. Having informed that at present joint projects with foreign partners are continuing via videoconferencing, he put forward a proposal to organize such events with Tashkent. He also said that the German Chamber of Commerce and KFW Bank, which are effectively operating in Tashkent at present, are ready for practical assistance to develop cooperation in various fields.
During the conversation, they also discussed the issue of bringing scientific, educational and cultural relations to a new level. A number of issues were discussed, such as an increase in the number of educational institutions specializing in teaching the German language, the opening of branches of prestigious educational institutions in Germany in the capital, and, if necessary, the creation of a complex covering lifelong learning, and the establishment of exchange of specialists in various fields.
The German Ambassador proposed to increase the capacity of School No. 60, the first foreign language of instruction of which is German. In turn, representatives of the khokimiyat of the city of Tashkent proposed to specialize one of the four secondary schools built and commissioned in the Sergeli district for teaching the German language.
In addition, the meeting discussed prospects for joint implementation of projects in several other areas, including waste recycling and road safety.
