Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 October 2020, during the visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held a number of meetings with the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan Amrulla Saleh and Chief of Staff of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Shokir Kargar.
During the meeting with the First Vice President of Afghanistan, the sides discussed issues of interaction to minimize the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of economic relations between the two countries, as well as the prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in a number of priority areas. The Afghan side expressed its readiness to provide effective support to the initiatives of Uzbekistan aimed at developing regional cooperation and ensuring stability.
They also discussed the possibilities for the implementation of new joint projects for the construction of road and rail infrastructure, the creation of logistics complexes and capacities for storing fruit and vegetables, as well as the modernization of customs complexes.
Talks with the Chief of Staff of the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Shokir Kargar made it possible to identify further tasks to expand bilateral cooperation. Mutual readiness to continue active work on the implementation of agreements and the development of mutually acceptable solutions on existing issues was repeatedly emphasized.
In particular, the parties positively noted the progress in interaction in the field of education and the importance of further development of cooperation between higher educational institutions of the two countries. An agreement was reached to speed up the joint preparation of a memorandum between the Ministries of Higher Education of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, providing for the sending of Afghan students to study in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
As a result of the meetings, further steps were agreed upon within the framework of bilateral cooperation aimed at accelerated socio-economic development of both countries.
