Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 October 2020, the XXVIII meeting of the Executive Committee and the XVIII General Assembly of the ECO CCI were held in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in the format of videoconference.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Mr. M. Rifat Hisarchiklioglu, President of ECO CCI, founder of the Afghan International Chamber of Commerce Mr. Azarakhsh Hafizi, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Mining of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. G. Hussein Shafi, President of the Federation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (FPCCI) Mr. Anjum Nisar, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Jamshed Jumakhonzoda, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan were presented by the First Deputy Chairman I. Jasimov and Deputy Chairman F. .Usmanov and other responsible persons of the meeting.
At the beginning of the Session, the Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Mr. M. Rifat Hisarciklioglu made a welcoming speech, where he noted the importance of holding today’s meeting.
During his speech, he also stressed the high level of the XVIII General Assembly of the ECO CCI (ECO CCI).
In his speech, the First Deputy Chairman of the CCI of Uzbekistan I. Jasimov noted that over the past two years, Uzbekistan has been actively participating in the activities of the ECO. For the first time, the CCI of Uzbekistan attended a meeting of the executive committee in Tehran, in 2018.
It is also worth noting that mutual encouragement and protection of investments is an important aspect in expanding investment cooperation between our countries.
Then the speeches of all the participating members were listened to.
Also during the meeting, the participants got acquainted with the results of the meetings of the specialized committees:
The Council of Women Entrepreneurs;
Tourism Committee;
The Transport Committee;
The Arbitration Committee;
Committee on Industry, Investment and Small and Private Business Development;
Trade Facilitation Committee.
As a result of the event, the protocol and the venue for the next meeting of the ECO CCI were approved.
It should be noted that despite the difficulties associated with the pandemic, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan continues to work on interaction with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional interstate economic organization, whose members are 10 states - Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Economic Cooperation Organization (hereinafter - ECO CCI) is a specialized body for the development of trade and economic cooperation between the ECO member states.
The main document is the Protocol of April 4, 1990. "On amendments to the Izmir Protocol of 1977", which provides for the creation of the ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Founders: Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Mining of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce. The chairmanship in the ECO CCI was carried out in various years by Afghanistan (1990-2007), Turkey (2007-2010 and 2018-2021), Iran (2011-2014), Pakistan (2014-2018).
During the Turkish Presidency, the Charter of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was approved, the institutional infrastructure of the Chamber was created, working procedures and principles were defined, and a website (www.ecocci.org) was created. At present, the CCI of Uzbekistan is actively working with all member organizations of the CCI ECO, in particular, bilateral Business Councils have been created with the CCIs of Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, work is underway to form a Business Council with Azerbaijan, Iran and Kyrgyzstan.
The following are identified as the most priority areas of cooperation:
- expansion of trade, economic and investment interaction;
- assistance in establishing a direct dialogue between small and private business;
- cooperation in the transport and communication sphere;
- development of interaction in the tourism sector.
