Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 September 2020, the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality held a meeting to discuss the results of studying the implementation of the Law "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men" in Namangan region. It was attended by members of the Committee, deputies of the Namangan Regional Kengash of People's Deputies, media representatives.
During the event, held through videoconferencing, it was noted that our country is taking consistent measures to protect the rights and interests of women, to further expand their opportunities in all areas. The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men", which defines the legal basis for this area, is also aimed at this. The results of studying the implementation of the Law in Namangan region showed that along with the work done in this direction, there are also a number of shortcomings.
In particular, in Namangan region, a special system has been introduced to timely identify the problems faced by women, provide targeted assistance to those in need of social protection, including persons with disabilities, as well as for individual work with certain categories of women.
In order to increase the participation of women in the management of state and social affairs in 2019-2020, 1,583 women were appointed to leadership positions, which is 745 people or 47.1% more than in previous years.
850.4 thousand or 55% of the 1 million 747 thousand working-age population living in the region are women. According to the results of the analysis, the number of women working in the management system is 8.8 thousand, the number of female technicians is 56 thousand, and the share of working women in the total employed population is 55%, including 33% in managerial positions.
In the region, 5828 women expressed a desire to start a business. Responsible structures assist them. At the same time, 4,140 women are employed in paid public works, 850 women have received subsidies from the State Employment Promotion Fund, and 2,145 self-employed women have been issued work books.
This year 15010 people were employed, of which 8773 are provided with permanent work at enterprises, organizations and institutions.
In makhallas, measures are also being taken to ensure the rights and interests of women who find themselves in difficult social situations and difficult living conditions.
In particular, in January-April 2020, assistance was provided to 752 women in need of material assistance, 139 single women, 276 women with disabilities, 405 women in need of medical care.
During the meeting, it was noted that during the implementation of the Law, along with the work done, some shortcomings were also identified.
Thus, when studying the activities of women in the field of management, an obvious disparity in ensuring equal opportunities for women and men in the field of public education is revealed.
In addition, although instructions were given to strengthen the role of women in decision-making, increase their number of women in regional government bodies, and create a personnel reserve in industries, the personnel reserves of women in Naryn, Yangikurgan and Uychinsk districts have not been created in the prescribed manner.
During the meeting, these and other shortcomings were discussed in detail, and officials were given appropriate instructions and recommendations for their elimination.
The relevant decision of the Committee was adopted on the considered issue.
