Iran opens a new transit corridor through Afghanistan to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A new route was opened within the framework of the TIR Convention on International Carriage of Goods.
Iran has launched a new transport corridor through Afghanistan to Uzbekistan. The day before, the first consignment of Iranian goods was sent to Uzbekistan. This is reported by review.uz
Afghan Ministry of Transport spokesman Hekmatullah Kavanj said the new route was opened under the TIR Convention on International Carriage of Goods. He noted that the first shipment consisted of tea and car tires.
Kavanj added that under the same convention, commercial cargoes were sent from Iran to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. According to him, at the moment the goods are in the territory of Afghanistan.
He stressed that the development of transit traffic is one of the priorities of the transport department.
In turn, Director General of Iranian Customs Transit Mostafa Ayati said that the transit corridor through Afghanistan to the Central Asian countries will contribute to the development of trade and strengthening of regional cooperation.
