Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on 6 August on organizing admission to higher educational institutions this year and preparation for the 2020/2021 academic year.
In recent years, as a result of transformations in the field of higher education, the confidence of young people and parents in this system has increased. The procedures for submitting documents for entry are completely transferred to a remote form, which creates great convenience for the population.
This year, 162,364 bachelor’s and 10,425 master’s degrees have been allocated for study at the country’s universities.
91 higher educational institutions accepted documents for admission to bachelor’s degree from 1 million 484 thousand applicants, which is 39 percent more than last year. 10.6 people apply for one student place.
78 thousand 720 people applied for admission to the magistracy in 72 educational institutions, which is 3 times more than last year. In general, admission quotas have been tripled compared to 2016.
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted, among other things, the established procedure for admission to universities. Therefore, today it is necessary to decide when, where and in what order the entrance tests will be conducted and how the educational process will be organized in the 2020/2021 academic year. At today’s meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined the range of tasks on the agenda, taking into account the factor of the pandemic.
In particular, it was noted that test trials should be carried out in places that ensure the epidemiological safety of applicants and observers.
Taking into account the fact that closed premises do not meet epidemiological requirements and do not have sufficient capacity to conduct exams at the optimal time, while maintaining social distance, an order was given to organize test trials in the central stadiums of Tashkent and the regions. Provided that exams are held 2 times a day (during cool hours of the day), the entire testing process can be completed in approximately 12-14 days.
Responsible ministries and departments have been tasked with thoroughly preparing stadiums for testing, informing applicants about their location.
The head of state stressed that it is necessary to determine the time of the examinations based on the conclusion of the Ministry of Health and the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service on the epidemiological situation, to ensure the safety of public health.
The State Commission for Admission to Educational Institutions, khokimiyats, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the State Security Service will take all necessary measures to ensure the transparency of test tests and prevent red tape of applicants.
The need to attract talented professors and teachers to enrich the educational process with high-quality educational resources is noted.
It has been determined that by August 25, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education will create digital methodological support for theoretical and practical classes, as well as educational programs adapted to distance learning in all subjects, of which there are more than 7.2 thousand.
In at least 35 state universities, first-year education will be organized according to a credit-modular system.
“The experience of developed countries shows that it is difficult to achieve scientific and technological success without adapting educational institutions to the requirements of the time,” President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
In this regard, this year, at least 5 universities in Uzbekistan will undergo a transformation process in cooperation with prestigious foreign universities. At the same time, the structure and technologies of teaching will be improved, as a result, universities will be transformed into scientific institutions capable of providing modern education and introducing innovations.
At the end of the meeting, the head of state personally talked with the rectors of universities of republican significance, gave the responsible persons specific instructions for solving the problems and proposals voiced.
