Seoul hosts public hearings on Free Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and South Korea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Seoul, public hearings were held on the intergovernmental Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Uzbekistan and South Korea, which was attended by responsible leaders of ministries and departments, leading researchers, experts, representatives of the academic community and Korean media, Dunyo news agency reported.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea.
Ro Keonki, Director General of the FTA Policy Bureau of this ministry, noted that Uzbekistan is a particularly strategic partner for the Republic of Korea. “Uzbekistan has a key role in the “New Northern Policy” of the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, since the country has huge potential and South Korean companies are interested in the implementation of investment projects. Research carried out jointly with the Uzbek side showed that Uzbekistan and South Korea will be able to start preparing for the negotiation process on the Free Trade Agreement as soon as internal agreements are completed,” he said.
Leading experts representing the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, the Korea Institute of Industrial Economics and Trade, the Korean Energy Agency, the Korean Automobile Industry Association, the Korean Textile Industry Association, the Korean Research and Development Agency, Agricultural Research Institute and Korea University also supported the conclusion of an FTA with Uzbekistan.
As a result of this event, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, together with the involved ministries, departments and organizations, will form a corresponding report for submission to the South Korean parliament.
