An online video conference on “Consensus Building for Peace” takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 July 2020, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, participated in an online video conference on Afghanistan on the theme of “Consensus Building for Peace”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.
The event was attended by the President of Afghanistan, Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, as well as representatives of member countries of the formats for Afghanistan “The Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process” and “Kabul Process”.
The conference was led by Afghan Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar.
President Ashraf Ghani noted the importance of reaching an agreement to launch inclusive inter-Afghan negotiations, which should be accompanied by a reduction in violence in the country. It was emphasized that Afghanistan should become a “center of harmony in Asia” and play a key role in strengthening regional interconnectedness.
The head of Afghanistan expressed gratitude to a number of countries, including Uzbekistan, for the continuous functioning of the border and the provision of humanitarian assistance in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.
During the event, international efforts to resolve the Afghan crisis, as well as the speedy launch of peaceful inter-Afghan negotiations, were also discussed.
The parties noted the key importance of consolidating the efforts of the international community on the issue of post-conflict reconstruction of Afghanistan, restoring the country’s economy, as well as observing the principle of the leading role of the Afghan people in the development of the political process in the country.
A thorough exchange of views took place on priority directions for rendering all-round assistance to Afghanistan.
