Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An interim clinical guide for managing patients with mild COVID-19 at home has been developed in Uzbekistan. Experts from the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare of the country worked on the document.
This clinical guide has been prepared in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
As you know, in Uzbekistan until 1 July 2020, all infected with COVID-19 were monitored and treated only in hospitals. At the same time, there was a study of successful international experience in predominantly remote management of patients with mild coronavirus infection who were self-insulating at home. This allows to significantly unload hospitals, giving doctors more opportunities for the successful treatment of more severe patients with COVID-19.
With this in mind, the country's leadership was tasked with the operational development of this Clinical Guide, the work on which was completed by specialists of the National Chamber in late June, and on July 1 the document was submitted to the Ministry of Health.
The clinical protocol contains an algorithm of actions for medical workers who will manage patients with a mild form of COVID-19 at home, as well as recommendations for the patients themselves and their families, a self-observation sheet for filling out by the patient at home.
The recommendations for healthcare professionals assisting patients with mild COVID-19 are based on clinical evidence available to date, good practice points, and expert opinions.
Among those who need this Clinical Protocol in the first place are emergency doctors, general practitioners, infectious disease specialists, pediatric infectious disease specialists, general practitioners, pediatricians, pulmonologists, otorhinolaryngologists, cardiologists, neuropathologists, rehabilitologists, healthcare organizers, and nurses.
As noted in the document, the decision on where to monitor a patient with suspected mild COVID-19: in a medical facility or at home should be made on a case-by-case basis and may also depend on the clinical picture, supportive therapy needs, potential risk factors for severe complications and domestic conditions, including living with vulnerable people.
The question of the organization of patient management at home can be considered with mild or mild symptoms of the disease and provided that there is no risk of rapid deterioration.
It is noted that the patient and his family need to provide continuous support, carry out sanitary-educational work with them and constantly monitor their condition throughout the entire period of home care.
In May 2020, specialists of the Ministry of Health and the National Chamber of Uzbekistan prepared Temporary recommendations for the management of all patients with COVID-19 in hospitals, which were updated by the specialists of the National Chamber of Innovative Health in late June, taking into account new recommendations of the World Health Organization
