Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Novastan news agency reported on a videoconference that took place with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and French Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire, Dunyo reported.
The author of the article, Adrien Kanter, notes that the purpose of this meeting was to develop investment and trade-economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as to discuss ongoing projects in Uzbekistan with the participation of French companies.
It was emphasized that the videoconference was held a few weeks after the large French companies confirmed their interest in implementing investment projects in the most densely populated country in Central Asia at a webinar organized on 20 April by the French Enterprise Movement MEDEF International.
The material mentions Uzbekistan’s intention to gain access to the European program of trade preferences for goods from developing countries (GSP +), which will allow Uzbek goods to achieve the complete abolition of customs duties on more than 66 percent of EU tariff lines.
Speaking about the significance of this meeting, the French journalist notes that it is a strong signal for French companies, which are in a situation of uncertainty regarding the viability of some large projects in Uzbekistan after the pandemic in mid-March 2020.
The publication reports that such flagships of French industry as “Total Eren”, “Orano”, “Veolia” and “Suez” are very active in the Uzbek market.
In this context, the importance of adopting a decree of the President of Uzbekistan on the creation of a photovoltaic power plant in the Samarkand region with a capacity of 100 MW, which was launched by Total Eren, was noted.
The material also provides information on measures taken by the leadership of Uzbekistan to support domestic exporters. It is noted that the country reimburses up to 50 percent of transportation costs for the export of national products and carries out special charter flights to support the implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan.
