The Uzbek side expressed gratitude to the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum for the delivery to Uzbekistan of a shipment of humanitarian aid from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with personal protective equipment to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The heads of diplomatic missions discussed joint efforts to assist citizens of Uzbekistan and the United States in matters of their return to their homeland and the mutual exchange of necessary information. Separately, the question of providing the United States of America with assistance in strengthening the capacity of medical institutions of Uzbekistan in countering the spread of coronavirus infection is raised.

In 2018, Uzbekistan was removed from the category of “offending countries” in both reports of the US agency, but was assigned to the “watch list”.
The prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sector as part of the implementation of the recently adopted Strategy for the development of the industry in Uzbekistan in 2020-2030 were separately discussed.
Rosenblum supported the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington on the appointment of an American adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan as part of the financial and technical assistance programs of the United States for the effective implementation of this Strategy. Currently, the head of the American diplomatic mission is planning consultations with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture of our country in order to determine specific areas of assistance, the range of obligations of the adviser and the expected results of his activities.
The ambassador emphasized that the USAID is already effectively implementing various projects in Uzbekistan and in the autumn a new program “Agribusiness Development Activities” will be launched in the country, taking into account the main directions of private sector development.
The American ambassador welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Justice to register the NGO Mercy Corp in Uzbekistan for the high-quality and timely implementation of the Food for Education project in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya region. This project is aimed at providing pre-schools in these regions with a high-quality system of baby food and water supply, as well as training.
Along with this, the prospects of including Uzbekistan in the list of priority countries under the US Department of Agriculture’s Food for Progress program aimed at developing private business in the agricultural sector were discussed.
The diplomats also discussed joint measures to further expand the academic and scientific-technological cooperation between the agricultural universities of the two countries, in particular, the Tashkent State Agrarian University and the University of Mississippia.
In conclusion, it was agreed to continue consultative negotiations between diplomatic missions on a regular basis.
