Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Every day, spring is getting closer and brighter. Nature awakens. People say that even if one day of winter is left, it is still winter. Moreover, in recent years the climate has changed dramatically, winters have become warmer, and spring with frequent repeated frosts, with rare and intense rainfall. And we talked about such climatic changes and preparations for spring at seminars dedicated to spring agricultural activities, which took place on 11-13 February in Namangan, Andijan and Ferghana regions as part of a joint project of the Chamber of Commerce and UNDP "Improving the Sustainability and Adaptation of Farmers of Ferghana valleys to climate change. ” The seminar was attended by over 190 people from among representatives of farms and horticultural enterprises.
The seminar program consisted of two parts, where the first part was devoted to building theoretical potential on the issues of cultivating the land, the conditions of irrigation, pruning and fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, and preventive measures against diseases and pests. Information was also provided in detail about the role of micro and macro elements in plant life. For example, a lack of nitrogen can be determined by the state of the leaves, the color is pale green, which can turn into yellow, orange and red. And an overabundance of nitrogen, on the contrary, makes the leaves dark green, an increase in the number of young fattening shoots, whose loose tissues are more susceptible to infection by parasites and diseases.
And in the second part, which was practical, the participants mastered the skills of pruning fruit trees, determining the state of the soil and measuring moisture. The usual white coating on the cherry turned out to be one of the malicious pests - the scale insecticide, which is detrimental to plants, because of it they stop growing, expose the branches, then begin to dry out and as a result, the whole plant dies. And of course, in parallel with the detection of pests and diseases, the participants received information on combating them, received materials and recommendations on the preparation of such simple prophylactic agents as Bordeaux mixture and lime-sulfur broths.
Of particular interest was the method of measuring soil moisture with an instrument, with which it was possible to immediately determine how much the soil needs watering. The seminar participants also discussed with special interest the methods of trimming, there was an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in practice and to receive the most effective recommendations for improving trimming skills there.
During the seminar, the participants were able to discuss issues related not only to agricultural technology, but also questions about climate change and how to mitigate its effects, the breakdown of a new garden, the choice of varieties of seedlings taking into account the soil and climatic conditions.
