Uzbekistan expands cooperation with Belgian textile companies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Benelux countries Dilyor Khakimov met in Brussels with the Director General of the Belgian Tavelmo Movelta Group, Oliver Hellin, Dunyo reported.
Movelta Group is one of the world’s leading textile manufacturers. A team of specialists from Tavelmo Movelta Group manufactures products on the best weaving machines using the best yarns available on the European market.
During the meeting, prospects for establishing cooperation in the field of fabric production were discussed. The Belgian side was familiarized with the information about holding major international events related to textiles in Uzbekistan, first of all, the UzTextile Expo exhibition, organized annually in September in Tashkent.
The ambassador of Uzbekistan invited the Belgian businessman to explore the potential investment opportunities with Uzbek partners, including in the framework of the First Tashkent International Investment Forum, which will be held on 5-6 March.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed that the Tavelmo Movelta Group will study the most optimal areas of cooperation for the subsequent development of specific proposals.
Recall that the textile and leather industries of Uzbekistan have great potential and are one of the leading and dynamically developing sectors of the domestic economy. The development of the potential of the textile and leather industry of the republic is one of the most important strategic directions. Today, these areas are developing on the basis of the adopted Concept for 2020-2024.
According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, in 2017, the industry accounted for 17% of the country’s total industrial volume, its share in GDP was 4%, and over 44% in the volume of production of non-food consumer goods. The annual growth in industry production in recent years has been approximately 18%, and exports - 10%.
