Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) launched the first stage of practical work in Uzbekistan as part of an investment project to build a thermal power plant in Syrdarya region.
In particular, the company began work on the study of soil before the start of these construction works. The new thermoelectric power station will be located near the existing Syrdarya TPP and will become 2 times more efficient thanks to equipping with modern combined-cycle plants (CCGT).
According to the project, two H / J class CCGTs with a total capacity of 1,500 MW will be installed at the new TPP, which are twice as efficient as the turbines of the existing Syrdarya TPP, which means that they will generate twice as much electricity from one unit of natural gas.
The investor uses the latest models of combined cycle plants with an efficiency of more than 60%, with the generation of about 10.0 billion kWh a year.
In addition, these modern CCGT units have a longer life without repair than those that were installed in Uzbekistan before the early 2000s.
The construction of a new thermal power plant will be fully implemented through direct private investment, the generated electric energy will be sold under a long-term contract.
Last discussion of the progress of this investment project took place on 7 February at a meeting of the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov with the delegation of Saudi Arabia, headed by the Deputy Minister of Energy of this country Abid bin Abdullah al-Sadun.
The delegation also included the chairman of the Board of ACWA Power Muhammad A. Abunayan and senior officials of this company.
