Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 11 February, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with a delegation of the World Health Organization led by Regional Director of the European Bureau Hans Kluge.
During the meeting, it was especially noted that the development of health care is among the main priorities of the state policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this direction, significant progress has been made in the country in recent years, which is recognized by the international community. Confirming this fact, the head of the WHO delegation noted the unprecedented pace of historical reforms carried out in all spheres of the life of the state and society under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, including in the field of health. In particular, the achievements of Uzbekistan in the field of vaccination, which covered almost the entire population, were noted.
Speaking about global challenges and threats, the head of the WHO delegation emphasized the work on the fight against coronavirus that Uzbekistan is conducting. It was noted that a huge preventive work has been done in the country to counteract the spread of the virus. All this, undoubtedly, is a worthy and significant contribution of Uzbekistan to the protection of public health.
Along with this, Uzbekistan’s achievements in the complete eradication of diseases such as malaria, polio and others throughout the country were emphasized, which is confirmed by the corresponding WHO certificates.
Speaking about the main directions of further cooperation, the emphasis was placed on close cooperation with the parliament, which will allow to consolidate at the legislative level the international standards adopted in the field of health.
In the context of further development of cooperation on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the priorities of cooperation in the field of maternal and child health were also discussed, in particular the joint implementation of the WHO project “Safe Motherhood”, further prevention of social diseases.
