Investment work on cooperation with the World Bank in the field of transport and road facilities has been intensified

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 30 January 2020, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan held discussions on the concept of the project “Construction on the basis of public-private partnership of the Tashkent-Andijan highway,” prepared by PriceWaterHouseCoopers and Arap&Partners (United Kingdom) brought in by the World Bank.

This discussion was attended by the leadership and specialists of the Ministry of Transport, the Agency for the Development of State Partnership, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Committee on Roads under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic, design organizations on roads.

On the foreign side, representatives of the World Bank group, PriceWaterHouseCoopers and Arap&Partners, as well as the International Finance Corporation, participated.

In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 9 December 2019 “On measures to further improve the management system of the road industry”, the Ministry of Transport, together with the involved ministries and departments of the republic, is expected to implement the project “Construction of the Tashkent-Andijan Highway” on the basis of public-private partnership.

Based on the results of today’s discussion of the project concept, the parties agreed to speed up the implementation of the project “Construction of a new tunnel at the Kamchik pass” in terms of its economic and financial payback.

Currently, projects with a total cost of US$1.703 billion are being implemented in the republic with the participation of the World Bank in the field of transport, including by attracting US$360 million in credit from the World Bank.

The above indicators demonstrate the positive dynamics of relations regarding the implementation of investment projects in the field of transport with the participation of international financial institutions.
