Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Uzbekistan will submit reports on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in Geneva on 3-4 December.
The reports will be heard at the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UN / CERD). This was reported by the press service of the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan will be represented by a delegation led by the director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov, consisting of a deputy of the Legislative Chamber of Aliya Yunusova, first deputy minister of internal affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Tashpulatov, chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Relations with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic Uzbekistan Rustam Kurbanov.
The combined 10-12th periodic reports of Uzbekistan on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination are analytics representing the fundamental changes in the protection and promotion of human rights that have occurred in the country over the past 2 years.
Participants in the UN CERD meeting will discuss the results achieved by Uzbekistan in enforcing the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. As a result, comments and recommendations of the UN / CERD will be presented.
An important issue is the measures taken in the country to combat incitement to racial hatred and to prohibit organizations that promote and incite racial discrimination.
Within the framework of the visit, meetings are also planned at the UN CERD Secretariat and the presentation of the document “Voluntary Commitments and Promises” developed by the National Center for Human Rights in connection with the nomination of Uzbekistan to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2021–2023.
The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination was adopted by the General Assembly on 21 December 1965. Uzbekistan ratified the Convention on September 28, 1995. Over the years, 12 periodic reports of Uzbekistan on the implementation of the provisions of the Convention have been submitted.
All States parties are required to regularly report to the Committee on the exercise of their rights. States must submit an initial report one year after acceding to the Convention, and a subsequent report every two years. The Committee examines each report and presents its views and recommendations to the State party in the form of concluding observations.
