Uzbekistan hosts International Conference “Central Asia - Our Common Home”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An international conference on the theme “Central Asia - our common home” has opened in the capital with the participation of experts and scholars from foreign countries in the field of interethnic relations.
The forum, held as part of the Week of Tolerance, initiated by the head of our state, discussed issues of developing and strengthening relations based on the principles of friendship, mutual interest and good neighborliness with foreign countries, including with the countries of Central Asia.
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the OSCE, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, heads of Uzbek national cultural centers abroad, chairmen and activists of national cultural centers, friendship societies, and media representatives.
It was noted that the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in September 2017 focused on the problems of ensuring security and stability in Central Asia, as well as put forward a number of initiatives.
The conference discussed such topical issues as the further expansion of cooperation between Central Asian states in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the strengthening of the role of the institution of "people's diplomacy" in strengthening mutual relations, priority issues of strengthening Uzbekistan's friendly and partnerships with Central Asian countries in accordance with the objectives, defined in the Strategy of Action, the role of national cultural centers and friendship societies in matters of “people's diplomacy”.
In sectional meetings of the forum, priority aspects were discussed on the adoption of the principles of interethnic harmony and the strengthening of regional cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as issues of ensuring the principles of religious tolerance.
As part of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Relations with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and the State Agency for Local Self-Government and Interethnic Relations under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
