Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11-13 November, during the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Brussels, the 15th meeting of the Uzbekistan-EU Cooperation Council was held, as well as bilateral meetings with heads of EU institutions, the Belgian Senate and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly .
During the events, the participants discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations and exchanged views on pressing issues of regional and international cooperation. Also, within the framework of the business program, a presentation was made of the investment and trade-economic potential of Uzbekistan as a country with a dynamically transforming economic model.
The European side noted and welcomed the completion of ratification by Uzbekistan of all 27 international conventions and agreements necessary for obtaining the status of beneficiary of the GSP + Generalized System of Preferences, and confirmed its readiness to assist in the preparation of the application of the Uzbek side for obtaining this status and all possible support to Uzbek suppliers in entering the markets of countries EU
As a result of the visit, an agreement was signed on financing technical assistance projects “Entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the World Trade Organization” in the amount of US$5 million, which provides for the preparation of necessary documents and advanced training of Uzbek specialists for better orientation in agreements and documents of the WTO and protocols of the international trading system .
A grant agreement was signed on the project “Contribution of EU Development to the Multi-Partnership Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea Region” in the amount of US$5.2 million - these funds will be used to implement projects in the areas of socio-economic development and mitigate the consequences of the Aral Sea tragedy in the Aral Sea region.
A significant event was the statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland P. Haavisto about the decision to allocate 1 million euros to support the activities of this Trust Fund, voiced by him during the negotiations.
