A new level in the development of Uzbek-German cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the 16th meeting of the Uzbek-German intergovernmental working group on trade and investment, which was held on 12 November in Berlin. The German delegation at the talks was headed by the Director of the Department of the Ministry of Economics and Energy, Dr. E. Franz.
So, following the results of 9 months of this year commodity circulation between the two countries grew by 50%. Over the past period of this year, 20 new companies with the participation of German capital were created on the territory of Uzbekistan, and their total number reached 200 units.
During negotiations and bilateral meetings, the leadership of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy (ECGE), the Federal Association of Small and Medium Businesses and a number of German companies reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level, as well as agreed upon joint steps aimed at strengthening trade and economic relations.
In particular, a number of new investment projects were worked out with the participation of German small and medium-sized businesses, and an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of a delegation of business circles to Uzbekistan as part of the upcoming Tashkent International Investment Forum.
Along with this, with the support of the German Chamber of Commerce (GCC), ECGE and the German-Uzbek Business Council, a Center for German Business will be established in Tashkent in order to support companies in Germany that are planning to enter the Uzbek market or are already operating in the republic .
Moreover, round-table meetings with German companies will be regularly held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to discuss issues of their activities in Uzbekistan and to develop joint proposals aimed at strengthening the position of German business in the market.
Cooperation in the field of innovation and infrastructure development is intensifying: the German Energy Agency (DENA) will launch a pilot project to improve the energy efficiency of multi-apartment residential buildings in the city of Nukus. After its successful implementation, the program for the introduction of German energy efficiency technologies will cover other regions of Uzbekistan.
The development of trade relations has a particular priority - together with ECGE, a program will be developed to promote Uzbek industrial products on the German market, including the introduction of German quality standards at the relevant enterprises of the republic and the certification of manufactured industrial goods in Germany. In this context, in close cooperation with the German National Institute of Metrology, a program will be implemented over three years to develop a quality infrastructure aimed at reforming the areas of standardization, certification, metrology and accreditation in Uzbekistan. The prospects for opening in 2020 were also worked out. GCC representative offices in Tashkent to systematically support the sustainable development of mutual trade and further increase trade.
In addition, during the meeting of the working group, agreements were reached on expanding the activities of the Berlin Economics research center, a leading consulting company on economic development, through the implementation of new technical and advisory assistance programs to improve the business environment and increase the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.
In 2020, cooperation on staff training will be continued and expanded - currently 419 managers of various enterprises of Uzbekistan have already completed internships at German enterprises as part of the German Government’s Management Training Program.
