Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 November, Tashkent hosted the presentation of the IMF report “Regional Economic Review for the Caucasus and Central Asia.” Analytical material was presented by the Deputy Director of the IMF Middle East and Central Asia Department, Mr. Juha Kahkonen.
Organized in the form of open seminars at the Central Bank and the Tashkent Financial Institute, the event brought together a wide range of participants from representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan, employees of the Central Bank, as well as experts from research institutions and educational institutions of the republic.
Juha Kahkonen, who has significant experience in the IMF and is directly involved in the Middle East and Central Asia, presented a presentation assessing the prospects for economic development of the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The report provides an analysis and assessments of the authors regarding global economic growth trends, factors affecting development and the necessary conditions required to maintain sustainable economic growth in the countries of the region. In this context, certain aspects of fiscal, monetary and financial policies, the dynamics of exports and imports, the volatility of prices for major energy carriers and the observed tension in international trade are considered.
The importance of measures to increase private sector activity to increase resilience to global shocks is noted. Recommendations on strengthening the financial sector, measures to increase competitiveness and improve governance are presented.
The event ended with an active discussion, where the participants received answers from the international expert to relevant questions of interest to them.
