Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A briefing was held at the Mission of Uzbekistan to the EU in Brussels on the upcoming parliamentary elections in the republic, Dunyo reports.
The event was attended by members of the European Parliament, who were provided with detailed information on the preparations in Uzbekistan for the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils of people's deputies.
It was emphasized that the elections will be fundamentally different from the previous ones - they will be transparently taking into account international requirements, which are fully incorporated by the recently adopted Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, developed jointly with the OSCE Office for Democratic Freedoms and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Venice Commission.
It is noted that more than 600 foreign observers from almost 50 foreign countries and international organizations whose activities are related to election observation will conduct monitoring of the election company and the elections themselves. In particular, for the first time in the country's history, the OSCE/ODIHR plans to send a full-scale mission of nearly 300 observers to Uzbekistan.
Special attention was paid to the creation of the Saylov-2019 mobile application, which contains regulations, information on election commissions, guidelines, training and other materials, which creates convenience for voters in the process of studying their electoral rights and opportunities. In addition, other information technologies are planned to be used in parliamentary elections, including the use of an electronic database of constituencies and precincts, members of their commissions, candidates for deputies of all levels, followed by the publication of this information on the CEC website and social networks.
The participants were also informed that the diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Uzbekistan created all the necessary conditions for the participation of Uzbek citizens abroad. In particular, a polling station was organized at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels, where Uzbek citizens temporarily or permanently residing in the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) can vote.
