Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 23 October 2019 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received Peter Burian, Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, who arrived in our country to participate in the international conference “Aral Sea Area - Zone of Environmental Innovations and Technologies”, which will be held on 24-25 October in the city of Nukus, the Foreign Ministry reports.
As noted in the conversation, in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union have reached a qualitatively new level, and the parties are ready to continue work on building up cooperation.
It was emphasized that the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan on liberalization of the economy open up opportunities for a wider presence of European business.
These and other pressing issues are also planned to be discussed during the visit of the representative delegation of Uzbekistan to Brussels on 11-13 November and the next meeting of the Uzbekistan-EU Cooperation Council.
At the meeting, the Minister praised the support provided by European partners to Uzbekistan’s initiative to create a Multi-Partnership Trust Fund for Human Security at the UN for the Aral Sea region.
The parties also exchanged views on international and regional issues.
On the same day, EU Special Representative Peter Burian also met with the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev.
The parties considered the prospects for cooperation in the Afghan sector, including the implementation of joint projects of an economic and educational nature.
The negotiations were attended by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union, Ambassador Eduards Stipreis.
