Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 October, during the visit to Baku, the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umrzakov held a number of meetings with the heads of the ministries and departments of Azerbaijan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
So, in particular, negotiations were held with the Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies R. Guluzade. They discussed the prospects for mutually beneficial partnerships in the field of transport and logistics: strengthening and optimizing passenger and freight communications, reviewing existing tariffs and fees paid at border crossings, providing tariff preferences for cargo transit and launching combined transportation of goods along transnational routes.
In addition, issues of cooperation in the field of technologies and innovations were touched upon: in this area, it was proposed to intensify cooperation with the Center for Research and Development of High Technologies of Azerbaijan, Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, Pirallahi High-Tech Park and other research and production associations for the exchange of experience and advanced developments with their subsequent application in practice.
The meeting resulted in the formation of a near-term interaction program, the implementation of which the parties will begin immediately.
A meeting was also held with the Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan I. Kerimov, during which the current state of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector was examined, as well as the prerequisites and promising directions for its expansion.
The mutual interest of the parties in terms of investment cooperation is aimed at creating joint agricultural clusters using modern high-tech equipment covering all production processes: growing, harvesting, sorting, calibration, packaging and export.
An important area of interaction was defined as scientific and technical cooperation with the involvement of industry research institutes for the exchange of experience and technologies in the field of cotton growing, sericulture and testing varieties of various crops by organizing mutual visits of specialists.
The issue of developing mechanisms for the supply of Uzbek-made agricultural equipment to the Azerbaijani market was separately addressed.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to create an Uzbek-Azerbaijani joint working group in the field of agriculture and organize its meeting in early 2020 in order to elaborate on the announced areas of cooperation.
