Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting with representatives of the International Judo Federation (IJF) was held at the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan.
The delegation included the media director of IJF and the chief director of the Judo for Peace commission, Nicholas Messner, as well as the representative of the Judo for Children project, Esther Stam. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan Doniyor Ilkhamov.
During the meeting, the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov and IJF representatives discussed the issues of popularizing judo among the youth of Uzbekistan.
It was noted that Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of sports and it is necessary to create a culture of playing sports in the country’s schools.
IJF representatives emphasized that the founder of judo, Jigoro Kano, considered his art as a mean of forming a harmoniously developed personality. He believed that judo is not so much defense without weapons as a philosophy of everyday life.
The judoist’s code of honor includes such qualities as politeness, courage, sincerity, honesty, modesty, self-control, loyalty to friendship, respect for others.
Nicholas Messner noted that, as practice shows, children who practice judo treat others with respect, and they achieve high learning outcomes.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of expanding the Judo for Children project in Uzbekistan. The project, implemented in cooperation with the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan, covers 20 schools in various regions of the country. In these schools, sections of judo are created, where about 900 schoolchildren train. The IJF donated tatami and kimonos to these schools free of charge, and also covers the cost of coaching staff.
The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan and the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan with the assistance of IJF intend to bring the number of schools participating in the project "Judo for Children" to 40.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to develop and adopt a “road map” for promoting judo among the youth of Uzbekistan through the creation of sports sections in schools.
