A delegation of Uzbekistan participates in the annual Congress of the International Triathlon Union
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Chairman of the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan Farrukh Nasyrov held talks with the President of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Marisol Kasado during the annual ITU congress, which was held on 29 August 2019 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation. Marisol Casado expressed her willingness to provide comprehensive support from ITU for the further development of professional and amateur triathlon in Uzbekistan. The ITU president also noted her readiness to visit Uzbekistan to get acquainted with the existing infrastructure for triathlon, as well as explore the possibility of developing a long-term triathlon development program in Uzbekistan.
The congress brought together national federations and triathlon associations from 73 countries. The agenda included a review of the organization’s activities in 2019 and the announcement of a plan for the upcoming triathlon and paratriathlon competitions in 2020, as well as an ITU support program for national federations next year.
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, also took part in the congress; he expressed his admiration for modern approaches and ITU’s commitment to Olympic values. “ITU is one of the leading international federations that is most actively preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games in 2020,” said Thomas Bach in his address to Congress. - The IOC is proud of its close work with ITU and appreciates the activities of the leadership and team of the Union, as well as ongoing initiatives in the field of gender equality.
In her speech, ITU President Marisol Casado noted: “We really want to focus on continuing to develop our sport, make our events more spectacular and attractive for athletes, the media and spectators, as well as have a new approach that will allow us to be even more successful soon.
In addition, during the event, a meeting of participants of the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) was held, where the head of the ASTC Justin Sukwon introduced the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan to all national federations of ASTC member countries. They discussed plans for the confederation for next year, as well as the possibility of holding Asian Cups, including in Uzbekistan.
It is worth noting that these days in Lausanne there were competitions of the ITU Grand Final, where more than 4,000 athletes and representatives of national federations arrived. Representatives of Uzbekistan took part in a parade of nations opening the main event in the world of triathlon, in which a triathlete from Uzbekistan spoke.
