Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11 September 2019, Kabul hosted a solemn event to mark the launch of the first container train from Afghanistan to China through the territories of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which was attended by the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, members of the Government, deputies of both houses of Parliament, representatives of socio-political and business circles of the IRA, as well as the diplomatic corps.
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the Minister of Transport of the IRA Yama Yari shared his plans for development of transport corridors in the country and the export of Afghanistan’s products to the PRC. He welcomed the successful launch of the first container train with 41 wagons from the port of Hairatan to China. The Minister emphasized that the launch of the rail transport will further increase the export of IRA and at the same time reduce the cost of transporting goods and delivery times.
In his speech, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani drew the attention of participants to the fact that Afghanistan, due to its unique geographical position, is a connecting link between the regions of Central and South Asia. “Today is a historic day for Afghanistan, which is embarking on development of an export-oriented economy”, the Head of the IRA said.
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani praised Uzbekistan’s merits in development of cargo transit, transport and communication routes in the region and thanked the leadership of the country for facilitating the transit of IRA goods to China: “I want to express my sincere gratitude to my great friend President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the support provided to the people and the government of Afghanistan on reconstruction and development of the country”.
On 12 September 2019, the conference on the “Role of Afghanistan as a regional transit hub” continued at Kabul Polytechnic University, which was attended by representatives of socio-political and business circles of Afghanistan, as well as the diplomatic corps.
