Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of representatives of the World Bank with specialists in the field of urban planning, utilities and architecture on sustainable development was held in the Tashkent city khokimiyat.
The concept of urban planning, taking into account sustainable development, provides a system of measures to respond to possible threats and risks: economic, environmental, demographic, etc. The meeting participants watched and discussed the presentation of Dr. Joseph Runzo on the Japanese city of Toyama. Toyama is the winner of world city competitions, one of the five most advanced megacities in the world, the best in Japan by various criteria and one of the hundred most sustainable cities in the world. The city owes its success to the development and implementation of a sustainable development plan. The main idea of this plan is to involve in the development and implementation of all participants in the process - the administration, the business community and public organizations. The work went in the direction of the elements that determine the development of the city: people, infrastructure and the environment.
At the first stage, the direction of movement is developed. Then a strategy and principles for its implementation are developed. A separate goal is the development of the city along with the surrounding rural areas and their interaction with the peripheral areas of the city. The main principles for creating sustainable development of the city are productivity, involvement of all parties, the use of PPP.
The World Bank expert Pablo Vaggione in developing the concept of sustainable development proposed to find for Tashkent a unique development idea that distinguishes it from other cities, this will create additional advantages for the development of the city. Examples of successful development of Shanghai and Copenhagen were considered - due to the right strategy.
It was also noted that the sustainable development plan is not a goal, but a working tool.
Within two months, an organization will be determined that will help Tashkent in developing a strategy for sustainable development, cooperation will last 1-1.5 years - until the development of a really working plan for the sustainable development of the capital.
