Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the World Health Organization, today in the world more than 400 million people suffer from diabetes. According to analysis, this figure may exceed 550 million by 2030.
In Uzbekistan, 220 thousand people are registered with this disease. These figures prove how urgent the issue of the development of endocrinology around the world is.
On this basis, in recent years, great changes have been made in our country in the field of providing the population with medical, in particular, endocrinological services. In particular, a number of decrees and resolutions of the head of state aimed at reforming the healthcare system are of particular importance, in particular, the President’s resolutions “On measures for the further development of specialized medical care for the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017–2021” from 20 June 2017 and “On the approval of the national program to improve endocrinological assistance to the population of the republic for 2019-2021” from 19 April 2019.
This was noted during a press conference on "The Status of the Endocrinological Service in the Republic of Uzbekistan", organized by the Ministry of Health at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications.
As it was said, in order to solve the problems existing in the field, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of endocrinological diseases, along with the National Program, a set of measures, the Road Map, the main issues of the National Program for 2019-2023 were identified.
Based on this, scientists and leading experts of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Endocrinology named after Academician Y.Kh. Turakulova carried out systematic work to prevent such diseases that have a negative impact on human health and the development of society, to improve the quality of medical services to patients.
Over the past two years, as a result of efforts to comprehensively develop the field of endocrinology, strengthen the material and technical base, and improve the quality of medical care in the regions, the number of patients who come from the regions to the capital has decreased by three times. At present, more than 650 endocrinologists are effectively working across the country.
It is noteworthy that, according to the relevant decision of the Ministry of Health in the pilot regions, a screening of diabetes mellitus is carried out among people over 45 years old. In addition, an online registry is being developed aimed at reducing the chronic consequences of diabetes, controlling their occurrence and improving the quality of life of patients.
In order to monitor the early diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases, timely and continuous provision of all regional endocrinological dispensaries with the necessary reagents, in particular reagents for measuring glycated hemoglobin and thyroid hormones, has been established. In each regional endocrinological dispensary in self-control schools, patients with endocrine diseases and their family members are trained by professional instructors.
As it was noted at the press conference, as a result of the reforms implemented in the sphere, it becomes possible to put into practice the successes of foreign countries in this field and to provide specialized diabetes care with the use of modern medical technologies to patients with diabetes.
