Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – An agreement in extradition from 17 October 2016 and the Agreement on legal assistance in civil, family and criminal matters from 5 December 2017 between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan entered into force on 7 August 2019.
The extradition agreement regulates the conditions for the extradition of persons suspected or accused of a crime, the requirements for documents containing an application for the extradition of said persons, and the conditions and time limits for the temporary arrest prior to the official request for extradition.
The document serves as a legal basis for effective cooperation in the field of combating crime, as well as contributes to the principle of inevitability of punishment.
Under the provisions of the treaty on legal assistance in civil, family and criminal matters, citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in the territory of one state enjoy the same legal protection in respect of their personal and property rights in the territory of another state as their own citizens of that state.
The document regulates the issues of legal assistance in civil, family and criminal cases, jurisdiction of cases, as well as the procedure for sending requests for documents, evidence and trials, recognition and enforcement of judgments.
The treaty will serve to further develop legal cooperation in civil and family matters in order to ensure reliable protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, as well as to improve cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crime.
