Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8-12 July 2019, a delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee Farrukh Karabaev attended the 4th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy and the 18th Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which were held in Geneva.
According to the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan in Geneva, representatives of more than 60 states, international organizations and associations for the protection of consumer rights and the development of competition took part in UNCTAD events.
The Uzbek delegation acquainted participants with the progress and results of the implementation of reforms in the republic in accordance with the Strategy for 2017-2021, the activities of the Antimonopoly Committee and the main directions of the Strategy for developing competition in commodity and financial markets for 2019-2023. Particular emphasis was placed on the development in recent years of legislation in the field of consumer protection and competition.
In the framework of their stay in Geneva, the delegation of the Antimonopoly Committee met with the head of the Competition and Consumer Policy Department of UNCTAD, Teresa Moreira.
The conversation substantively discussed the establishment of joint cooperation between UNCTAD and the Antimonopoly Committee on the implementation of technical assistance projects to strengthen the institutional capacity of the antimonopoly body, to improve legislation in the field of competition protection and consumer rights.
