Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 10 July 2019 Ismatulla Irgashev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, met with Director of the Center for Afghan Studies at the University of Nebraska of Omaha State (USA) Sher Jan Ahmadzai.
The center is actively involved in the process of developing expert opinions on the Afghan problems for political-forming circles in Washington, and has considerable prestige among the expert circles of Afghanistan and the region of Central Asia.
During the conversation, Uzbekistan’s efforts to resolve the Afghan crisis and the priority directions of our country’s policy for the economic recovery of Afghanistan were discussed.
The Director of the Center highly appreciated the policy pursued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the broad integration of Afghanistan into regional processes, providing practical assistance for the full implementation of various infrastructure projects initiated by Uzbekistan in the country.
According to Sher Jan Akhmadzai, the initiatives of the head of Uzbekistan in relation to Afghanistan, aimed at actively involving Kabul in regional integration processes and turning the country into an indivisible part of the Central Asian region, are fully and fully supported by the Center he heads.
Sher Jan Ahmadzai noted that the Center is interested in conducting research on current trends in Central Asia, expanding its regional ties and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Taking into account the urgency of Tashkent’s actions in the Afghan direction, their focused and targeted nature, as well as the importance of close cooperation with the countries of the region, Sher Jan Ahmadzai informed about the decision to expand the format of the Center’s activities with an emphasis on the Afghanistan-Central Asia direction.
An agreement has been reached to support the Center for the efforts of Uzbekistan in the educational sphere, in particular, to train Afghan national personnel on the basis of the Educational Center in the city of Termez.
Mutual interest was expressed in forging close ties between the Center for the Study of Afghanistan and the expert circles of Uzbekistan specializing in the Afghan area.
