Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Today, the role of Parliament in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals discussed at the round table in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Creating the conditions for achieving the SDGs will require serious efforts not only from the executive authorities, but also from the active role of parliament. Given the long-term nature of sustainable development programs, institutional and legal mechanisms for monitoring the progress of the republic should be established in such a way as to maintain consistency, continuity and consistency regardless of electoral cycles.
The round table was organized by the Institute for Problems of Legislation and Parliamentary Studies under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the UNDP projects, UN Uzbekistan and UNESCO-Tashkent.
The choice of the day June 30 is not accidental. On this day in 1889, the first international conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was held in Paris, the main characters of which were Frenchman Frederic Passy and the Englishman William Kremer, both of whom later received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Therefore, June 30, 1889 is the starting point for creating a unique parliamentary organization, surviving two centuries of frontier, two world wars and one cold - became a new internationally recognized memorable date.
