Uzbek President ratifies Protocol to ILO Convention 29

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On ratification of the Protocol to Convention 29 of the International Labor Organization of 1930 on forced labor”.
The law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on 13 June 2019 and approved by the Senate on 21 June 2019.
The Protocol to this Convention was adopted on 11 June 2014 in Geneva.
The document envisages ratification of the Protocol to the ILO Convention 29 on Forced Labor (Geneva, 11 June 2014), which stipulates that each ILO member will, in fulfillment of its obligations under the Convention, undertake active efforts to prevent the risks of forced or compulsory labor, to determine the factors increasing the risk of forced or compulsory labor, training and informing employers about the inadmissibility of their participation in the practice of forced or compulsory labor.
The protocol was ratified by 30 states, such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, the Netherlands, Israel, Russia and others. It was emphasized that the provisions of the Protocol for the Prohibition of Forced Labor are reflected in the Constitution (Art. 37), the Labor Code (Art. 7), the Criminal Code, the Code of Administrative Responsibility, a number of laws and government decisions.
Ratification of this Protocol will strengthen the international legal framework, establishing new obligations to prevent forced labor, protect its victims and ensure access to remedies, as well as create a positive image of Uzbekistan in its relations with the ILO, and develop constructive cooperation with international human rights organizations, studying the experience of developed countries in protecting the rights and interests of victims of forced labor.
