Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On the further improvement of information and library services for the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
The Resolution approved the Concept for the Development of the Information and Library Sphere of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Program of Measures for the Development of the Information Library Sphere in the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019-2024.
It was determined that the extrabudgetary Fund for the Development of Information and Library Institutions will receive funds in the amount of two percent of the amount received by the Fund for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies.
About 186 district (city) information and library centers at the National Library will be formed.
Also, all current information and resource centers at schools and colleges are abolished, and their book collections and staff units are transferred to the newly created district (city) information and library centers.
The resolution defines the main tasks of the newly created district (city) information and library centers.
These include creating conditions for access by socially vulnerable groups of the population to information, providing users with wide access to high-quality information sources on any media (print, multimedia and digital), including the Internet.
In addition, departmental libraries will be created (improved) in state bodies and other organizations, including military units. To update and replenish their book fund, a list of required publications will be compiled annually.
21 May is declared the Day of the Librarian. At the same time, awarding and rewarding librarians with state awards for many years of diligent work and contribution to the development of the information library sector is envisaged.
