Over 2,760 schools of Uzbekistan to receive modern computers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the five initiatives of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan will acquire 2,859 educational and computer classes for secondary schools in the country. South Korean company KT won a tender for the supply of educational and computer classes.
On 7 June 2019, the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov, and the President of KT Yoon Young Park signed a contract for the supply of educational computer classes.
KT became the winner of the tender for the supply of educational and computer classes in the framework of the project "Further development of information and communication technologies in school education." The project is financed by a loan from the Export-Import Bank (Eximbank) of the Republic of Korea in the amount of US$33 million.
As part of the contract, KT will supply and equip 2,859 educational and computer classes to 2,766 secondary schools in Uzbekistan. It is expected that about 700 secondary schools will be equipped by the end of this year.
Earlier, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward five important initiatives to organize social, spiritual and educational work on the new system. The third initiative of the President is aimed at organizing the effective use of computer technologies and the Internet by the population and young people.
Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov underlined that South Korea is one of Uzbekistan’s reliable partners. He added that he did not doubt the success of this project.
This project will improve the computer literacy of schoolchildren, the minister said. Uzbekistan does not have direct access to the sea and the development of the services sector based on information technology is one of the important areas for the country, he said.
The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan is working on curriculum revision, including the teaching of information technology.
