Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 May, the general director - chairman of the board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and the first deputy prime minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - transport minister Achilbai Ramatov discussed issues of cooperation in the railway sector in Moscow.
The sides noted an increase in the traffic of foreign trade cargoes between Russia and Uzbekistan. In 2018, the volume of these traffic increased by 2% compared with the previous year and amounted to 6.8 million tonnes.
Oleg Belozerov stressed that 63% of transit containers in 2018 were transported by Russian Railways in transit in the East-West direction (+ 34% by 2017). A significant increase in container traffic was also noted in communication with the countries of Central Asia (+ 36% by 2017). One of the factors affecting the increase in the volume of transit cargo, the head of JSC "Russian Railways" called the constant work on the special tariff conditions offered by the company.
During the meeting, Oleg Belozerov and Achilbai Ramatov also discussed issues of joint participation in railway infrastructure projects aimed at the development of transit cargo transportation, including in the communication China-Europe-China.
In addition, the parties expressed their willingness to cooperate in the exchange of existing experience in the preparation of high-speed rail projects.
