Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 May 2019, Tashkent will host the presentation of the UN World Report on the state of water resources in 2019 “Leaving no one aside”.
The event was organized by the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Water Management of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the UNESCO Chair for Water Diplomacy, Water Management and Environmental Protection of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation Engineers and Agricultural Mechanization.
The presentation will feature the main findings and program messages from the UN World Water Status Report 2019, which were officially presented on 19 March 2019 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva as part of the meeting of the Human Rights Council.
The UN report on the state of water resources is the flagship report of the UN on water resources. This is a comprehensive overview that provides a general overview of the state, use and management of global freshwater resources. It aims to provide decision makers with the tools to develop and implement sustainable water policies. The annual Report is each time devoted to various issues related to water resources.
According to the new UN World Water Report, discrimination, exclusion, marginalization, entrenched asymmetry in the distribution of power, material inequality are among the main obstacles to respecting the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation for all, as well as the implementation of water goals of the 2030 Agenda.
In this context, improving water management and ensuring universal access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation is of great importance for eradicating poverty, building peaceful and prosperous societies and ensuring a situation where “no one is forgotten” on the road leading to sustainable development.
