Abdulaziz Kamilov receives UN Assistant Secretary General
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 May 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and Americas in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, who arrived in our country to participate in the V International Forum of Alumni of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
During the conversation, the practical aspects of the implementation of the agreements reached during the fruitful negotiations of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in April in the city of Beijing, were discussed, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The parties noted with satisfaction the beginning of the activities of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the UN. Currently, a number of states have announced the allocation of funds to the fund. In particular, Uzbekistan made the first tranche in the amount of US$2 million from the planned US$6 million. About 500,000 hectares were planted on the former Aral Sea floor with protective plantings, over 500 development projects of the Aral Sea region were carried out.
At the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on selected international and regional issues.
