A delegation of American doctors arrives in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 May 2019, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States conducted a video conference with Vice-President of the American Children’s Research Hospital “St.Jude” (Memphis, Tennessee) Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, during which the sides reviewed the program and agenda of the the visit of a delegation of American doctors to Tashkent on 16-18 May.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the conversation emphasized that this trip was carried out within the framework of the implementation of the agreements reached in 2018 during a visit by the delegation of the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the USA to the St.Jude hospital and discussing the possibility of cooperation in developing a national plan to combat cancer in children, developing treatment guidelines and capacity-building projects, education and research to increase access to quality care for every child in Uzbekistan.
As a logical continuation of the fruitful dialogue, the Global Eurasian Regional Program with the participation of experts on cancer in children from 12 countries of the continent was created in March 2018 with the support of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
The delegation headed by Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo will visit Uzbekistan for the first time and intends to establish strong partnerships with the Uzbek side.
During the visit, it is planned to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Medical Research Institution “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Inc. and the Ministry of Health. The document envisages establishment of direct partnerships in the field of cancer treatment among children, within the framework of which a number of activities are planned, including visits to remote regions of the country.
The visit also includes meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov, a visit to the Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Republican Center of Oncology and Radiology, the Institute of Pediatrics and other medical institutions.
