Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 April - 2 May 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilkhom Nematov attended the 16th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue which took place in Doha (State of Qatar).
The heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Asian and Middle Eastern countries reviewed new solutions to establish effective partnerships in various fields, as well as issues of social and economic strategies for sustainable development in order to implement the common aspirations of the peoples of Asia in accordance with the DSA-2030 Vision.
In the speech of the head of the delegation of Uzbekistan, it was noted that our country consistently supports the enhancement of the role of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, the goals of which correspond to the course of modern politics of Uzbekistan conducted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was stressed that large-scale reforms are being carried out in Uzbekistan based on the Action Strategy for the five main areas of development of the country in 2017–2021, developed at the initiative of the head of our state.
Regarding the development of Central Asia, Ilkhom Nematov said: “Thanks to the deeply thought-out political course of the President of Uzbekistan, in recent years, cooperation in the region has significantly increased on the basis of good neighborliness, mutual consideration of interests and reasonable compromises. The concrete results of the constructive foreign policy of Uzbekistan were the achievement of mutually acceptable solutions to the most complex and complicated issues, such as the delimitation of state borders, the use of water and energy resources, transport communications and others”
“According to world experts, thanks to the open policy of Uzbekistan, for a short historical period, a completely new healthy climate, friendly atmosphere and favorable conditions for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries of the region have been created in Central Asia,” he said.
A business forum on the topic “Small and medium business as a new engine of sustainable economic prosperity” was held as part of the Ministerial Council.
Following the 16th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Doha Declaration adopted a general vision of the prospects for further development of cooperation in Asia.
During the official event, on behalf of the head of the State of Qatar, a brief conversation between the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Nematov and Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani was held, who conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to President Sh. He stressed that Uzbekistan for Qatar is a key state and a promising partner in Central Asia.
During the visit, the Uzbek delegation in Doha held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The parties thoroughly discussed a range of issues of the Uzbek-Qatari agenda. The main attention was paid to the prospects of expanding cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.
At the meeting, proposals were supported on holding on a regular basis bilateral political consultations, meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, organization of the Business Council and other institutions of interaction between Uzbekistan and Qatar.
Along with this, negotiations were held with the leadership of the Qatar Development Fund. The meeting discussed issues of attracting funding from the Fund to the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea coast, as well as for implementing socially significant projects in the field of education and health in Uzbekistan.
At a meeting with the head of the Qatari logistics company GWC, the possibilities of establishing long-term cooperation in the creation of modern logistics centers in Uzbekistan in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas and other areas were considered.
