Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 March 2019, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Shanghai (China), having received information about citizen of Uzbekistan Maftune Holmatova, forcibly held in one of the districts of the city, officially appealed to local police authorities. As a result, the location of the compatriot was established and consular officials met with her.
According to a citizen of Uzbekistan, in June 2018 she met with a Chinese citizen Yao Venhao through a marriage agency in Namangan and, believing promises, officially registered her marriage and later flew to him in China. According to her, upon arrival she lived in difficult social conditions, she was not given food, beaten and humiliated, and also she was taken away a passport. Unable to endure the torment, she repeatedly tried to escape from the place of residence.
After the conversation, in the presence of the head of the police department, a citizen of Uzbekistan was handed over to the Consulate General. On 28 March, she arrived in Tashkent by flight through the city of Beijing.
Based on the fact that similar facts with compatriots in other states are not unique, the Consular and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends that Uzbek citizens, when entering a foreign country for a long time, be sure to register for consular registration in foreign institutions of Uzbekistan and in similar or other difficult life situations abroad refer to them. At the same time, the national passport cannot be transferred to other persons.
